Townsville – Things to Do and See

Magnetic IslandA must see while staying in Townsville, Just 20 mins by ferry from Townsville.

The StrandThe hub of many activities, the beach and pathway follows the curve of Cleveland Bay from Kissing Point to the Marina. Special features include stinger protected beaches and rock pool, BBQ sites, eateries, fully fenced toddlers’ playground, water park, teen park and oval. Strand Park is the host of Friday night markets, Stable on the Strand and many other community events.  

Reef HQ - The world’s largest living coral reef aquarium. Walk through the tunnel and view the predators of the deep including sharks, trout, groper and trevally. See the small aquaria containing eels, sea snakes, sea horses and star fish.

Billabong Sanctuary - A fauna park with Australian native animals in their natural surrounds. Highlights of the park include koalas, kangaroos, pythons, crocodiles and cassowaries.

Castle HillWalk or drive to the lookout for magnificent views of Townsville, Magnetic Island and Cleveland Bay.  Ask a local on how to get to the walking track.



Omnimax Theatre - A unique 18 metre dome screen showing 3D films.

Markets - Arts and crafts, farm fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, handcrafted souvenirs, snacks, drinks and plants.

Pallarenda Beach - A popular recreational spot for families, offering the best access to the stone jetty and tracks that lead to the ruins of World War 2 gunning emplacements that sit above Shelley Bay.

Museum of Tropical North Queensland - Opened in June, 2000 features a comprehensive display of the wreck of the Pandora.

Maritime Museum of Townsville - Displays of regional, national and international maritime history including ship models, artefacts, photos, paintings, machinery and pearl diving exhibits.

Queens Garden – Beautiful botanic gardens located in North Ward.
